Red Sky at Night- Ink Landscape of Red Maple Trees in Snow

red pink white landscapered pink white landscape3

I think of this landscape as an experiment in painting using one colour tone, like black and white, but instead with red (though I have added a few different hues into the mix).

Reading a little about red maple trees, they are traditionally connected with ideas about positive thinking, balance, promise and practicality. Native American wisdom says that a Maple Tree flourishes from human love and attention.

I’m afraid I may have to give up painting snow soon as January is nearly over.

Wedding Planner Detail

Just wanted to share a little detail from a Wedding Planning Journal I recently finsihed as a custom order on etsy. It took a lot of tweaking and consultation, but I love all the little details- the hearts, confetti and the way the black and white work on the kraft card background.

I used to work in wedding stationery, so it was a chance to relive the good old days (without having to tie 200 bows in one day).

Inspiration Photos- Robin, Squirrel, Trees, Grasses and Flowers

Winter in Ireland is very cold, but still beautiful. These first few images are some inspiration shots for painting which I took in the Botanic Gardens. I thought it might be fun to add some diversity to my blog and show some other interests apart from my paintings and drawings. I loved the little robin above- took quite a few before he disappeared.

These lovely fern-like grasses had a label that I think read ‘Snowwine’

I also stalked several squirrels, out in this very cold january still collecting pine cones etc. they were all over the gardens.

I love this tree. I’m working on sketches for a painting from it at the moment.

Some lovely flowers hanging from a fence near the Magnolia trees.

Happy New Year!

ImageMore snowy canvases, the last for a while as I’m now working on birds. I hope everyone has had a lovely holiday season.

I’ve been on etsy about a year now, and while it can be too addictive, I’ve had a lot of fun. My most encouraging week all year came mid December, one of my works. “Red Ferns’ was featured in a front page treasury, and next thing I knew, I had gotten 1000 views, and sold it along with two others. The rest of the week I made several more sales. It was an unexpected delight, and has encouraged me to really up my game this year.

Best wishes to everyone for 2014!
